Super Hero Smoothies: Captain America

Welcome to the third addition of Super Hero Smoothies here at Feeding the troops. This week's requested super hero was Captain America in honor of Independence Day.

This is another layered smoothie, just like the Iron Man smoothie from last week.

It's been hot, so again I tried to keep these on the lighter side by using coconut water, instead of something like almond milk.

The blue layer is 1 cup of blueberries, and 1 cup of coconut water

The white layer is 1 banana, 1/4 cup of coconut milk, and 1 Tbsp hemp seeds*

The red layer is 1 cup of strawberries, and 1 cup of coconut water

I use the magic bullet for these layered smoothies, because making each layer in it's own cup makes clean up easy. You can absolutely use a blender, but the pitcher just needs to be cleaned between each color.

Haven't used hemp seeds before? Here is why you might want to try them.

"Hemp seeds have the most concentrated balance of proteins, essential fats, vitamins and enzymes combined with a relative absence of sugar, starches and saturated fats. Hemp Seeds are one of nature's perfect foods - a Super Food." (source)
Since this smoothie was all fruit, I included hemp seeds to add a little protein, Omega 3, and Omega 6! A nutritional boost that they couldn't see or taste.

Happy Blending!
