3 Fresh Snack Ideas: Featuring Apples!

You've heard that age old adage "An apple a day keeps the doctor away," but with all the newly popular super foods, apples seem have taken a back seat.

But not in hour house! Apples are still a favorite. My oldest eats at least 2 every day, I can't keep him away!
(And let me tell you, the kid never gets sick! We will all have colds, and he will be just fine.)

Here's a little bit of info on apples: 
Apples have quite a bit of soluble fiber (4 grams per medium apple), yet a modest amount of calories (95). This means that they will satisfy hunger for few calories, making them a great snack.

They are a good source of immune-boosting vitamin C (providing 14 percent of the daily value).

Apples are associated with a lower risk of death from both coronary heart disease and cardiovascular disease, and frequent apple eaters have a lower risk of suffering strokes compared with non-apple eaters.

Eating an apple before you work out may boost your exercise endurance. Apples deliver an antioxidant called quercetin, which aids endurance by making oxygen more available to the lungs.  (Source) 

But I have to admit, however perfect the apple may be, eating them every day can get uninteresting, dull, tiresome, unexciting, monotonous, repetitive, uninspiring. So here are some fresh ideas to spruce up your apple eating experience!

'Caramel' Apple Slices

















Dipped and Rolled Wedges
These are easy, flexible, and the kids can help!
Cut the apple into wedges
Dip them in yogurt or nut butter
Roll in Granola
(If you use yogurt, pop them in the freezer for 10 minutes to let the yogurt harden a bit)
















Apple Sandwich with Peanut Butter & Coconut Caramel 'Jelly'

This apple sandwich uses thinly sliced apple circles as the bread, and sandwiched in between is natural peanut butter, and coconut caramel 'jelly'

To make this incredible 'jelly,' just blend 1/2 cup of dates with 2 Tbsp coconut oil, 1 tsp vanilla, and a dash of salt.

















Just try to keep the little fingers away :o)
